Elizabeth

Excellent choice due to its proximity to businesses and various neighborhoods throughout Charlotte.

Welcome to Elizabeth

Elizabeth, one of Charlotte's finest neighborhoods, takes its name from the former Elizabeth College, a small women's college. The neighborhood truly began to flourish with the completion of the trolley line. It gained further prominence as the location of Independence Park, Charlotte's inaugural public park, becoming a highly sought-after area to reside in the city. Today, Elizabeth boasts an estimated population of 4,000 residents.

With much of its development occurring in the early 1900s, Elizabeth showcases tree-lined streets adorned with mature trees, lending a charming ambiance to the bungalow-style front porches while providing a sense of privacy. If you seek a walkable community, Elizabeth is an excellent choice due to its proximity to businesses and various neighborhoods throughout Charlotte.

A significant portion of the neighborhood has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places as the Elizabeth Historic District. Within this district, you will find two major hospitals and numerous historic sites that have been converted into new establishments, including restaurants, shops, and offices. Despite its somewhat indistinct borders that blend with Uptown, Plaza Midwood, and more, Elizabeth remains a hidden gem in Charlotte. This delightful and historically rich neighborhood entices both longtime Charlotteans strolling along the main strip and bustling students from Central Piedmont Community College. Elizabeth exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, striking a harmonious balance between vibrant activity and laid-back, relaxed energy.
