Welcome to South End

Nestled immediately south of Uptown, South End pulsates as the vibrant heart of Charlotte, seamlessly blending history, commerce, contemporary trends, and artistic expression. Its name, a testament to its location, harkens back to the establishment of Charlotte's first railroad line connecting Columbia and Charleston, SC in the southern part of the city in 1850. Often referred to as a reborn neighborhood, South End has experienced a remarkable revitalization.

In its prime, South End thrived with booming businesses until the industrial sector underwent a sharp decline in the 1970s and 1980s, leaving behind a multitude of abandoned mills and warehouses. However, history intertwines with contemporary aspirations in this neighborhood. Many of the historic mills and warehouses, with their deep-rooted heritage, have been meticulously renovated to reintroduce restaurants, retail shops, art galleries, and upscale residential estates.

From the late 1800s to the mid-1900s, Charlotte boasted electric streetcar services that left an indelible mark on its transportation history. The trolley cars remained untouched until later in the century when Charlotte Trolley Inc. partnered with the Charlotte Area Transit System to integrate the historic trolley service into the broader transit network. Today, South End proudly forms part of the Charlotte LYNX light rail system, conveniently located just minutes away from Uptown, the airport, and major highways.
